Rose Vine Burnout (Devore) Velvet

Climbing roses and winding vines are burned into lustrous viscose pile so the pattern opens onto a sheer nylon ground. Romantic, fluid and flattering, BR-01 is one of our most versatile formal florals and reads as luxury across Middle Eastern, African and Western markets.

How the Rose Vine Is Burned

A chemical burn-out, not a print — the pattern is transparent because the fibre is gone, not because ink was added.

BR-01 begins as a flat woven cloth: 80% viscose rayon forms the pile face, 20% nylon holds the ground. We print a caustic paste in the rose-vine layout, then pass the cloth through heat. Where the paste sits, the cellulosic viscose is destroyed and washed away; the nylon, being synthetic, resists the alkali and stays. What is left is a solid, lustrous rose and vine standing over a sheer mesh ground — one cloth, two levels of transparency, no laminating and no bonding.

The cloth is then neutralised, dyed and finished. Because the sheer areas are genuinely open, they take dye differently from the pile: on the lake blue and soft pink grounds the contrast is soft and tonal, while rose-on-black pushes the roses forward and reads almost embossed at a distance.

Handfeel, Weight and Drape

At 170–200 GSM BR-01 sits in the light-to-mid velvet bracket — heavy enough to hang in a clean column, light enough that a full gown does not fight the wearer. The pile is short and dense rather than plush, so the surface catches light in a narrow sheen instead of a broad bloom, and the burnout openings give the cloth a slight give across the pattern repeat.

On the body it behaves like a crepe-backed velvet: it falls from the shoulder without ballooning at the hip, and it holds a soft fold rather than a hard crease. For structured pieces — a fitted bodice, a bias-cut skirt — interface or line the sheer areas, because the open ground has less body than the pile.

Where Designers Use BR-01

Evening gown. The climbing-rose repeat is large enough to read from across a room but not so large that it breaks on a narrow panel. Cut on the bias for a slip gown, or use the sheer ground as the yoke and sleeve of an otherwise solid dress.

Dirac and abaya. A floor-length dirac in rose-on-black is the most requested version we ship to the Gulf: opaque enough for a formal majlis, sheer enough at the sleeves to keep the silhouette light. For abaya, most buyers use it as an overlay or as the front panel of a solid abaya.

Kaftan and resort. The lake blue and soft pink grounds suit kaftans and long tunics where the burnout does the work of a print without the flatness of one.

Occasion separates. Skirts, cape sleeves, wide-leg trousers and trimmed cuffs — the repeat is laid out so that offcuts stay usable.

Care, Finishing and Colour Fastness

Dry clean is the safe route for finished garments. If you must wash, cold hand wash with a neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash, no tumble dry — heat collapses the pile, and the sheer areas distort before the pile does. Press on the reverse at low temperature through a cloth, never directly on the pile.

In production, the two things to watch are needle marks on the sheer ground (use fine-gauge ballpoint needles) and seam grin at the burnout edge — overlock or bind the open areas rather than leaving a plain seam. Colour fastness to rubbing is grade 4 or better on the dyed grounds; test reports can travel with the swatch card.

Sampling, MOQ and Lead Time

MOQ is 300 metres per colourway. Greige is held in stock, so once a colour is confirmed the lead time is about 15 working days plus shipping. Swatch cards in the three stock grounds go out by courier — send your address and the grounds you want to see and we will quote the freight with the card. Custom colour matching to your Pantone or lab dip is available above the MOQ; custom pattern development (OEM/ODM) is quoted separately, because a burn-out screen has to be built for the new layout.

Recommended End Use

Evening gown · Dirac · Abaya · Kaftan. Fabric can be re-colored to your collection.

Questions Buyers Ask

What is BR-01 Rose Vine?

BR-01 is an 80% viscose 20% nylon burnout/devore velvet, 170-200 GSM and about 140cm wide. Romantic climbing-rose vine burned over a sheer ground; a timeless evening floral in three grounds. Available in: Lake blue · soft pink · rose-on-black.

What is the MOQ, lead time and price?

MOQ 300 meters per colorway; greige is stocked so lead time is about 15 working days. The factory-direct FOB anchor starts around US$3.10/m for this range; send quantity for an exact price.

Can I order other colors or a custom pattern?

Yes, this design can be re-colored to your card and we welcome OEM/ODM custom patterns with a separate custom MOQ.

Is burnout velvet the same as devore?

Yes. Burnout, devore and dévoré are the same process under different trade names — a caustic paste burns away the cellulosic fibre (viscose, cotton) and leaves the synthetic fibre (nylon, polyester) standing. The sheer areas in BR-01 are open cloth, not a printed illusion.

Will the sheer areas tear or ladder?

The open ground is nylon mesh, so it resists runs far better than a knitted sheer. It still needs a proper finish: fine-gauge ballpoint needles in sewing, and overlocked or bound edges rather than a plain seam. Treated that way it wears like any lightweight crepe.

Can BR-01 be washed at home?

Dry clean is safest for a finished garment. If you wash, cold hand wash with neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash and no tumble dry, then dry flat in shade and press on the reverse through a cloth.
