How the Pine and Coral Branch Is Burned

Fine needle-and-branch linework — the hardest thing to burn cleanly, and the reason this one looks embroidered.

BR-03 is an 80% viscose / 20% nylon woven velvet. The pattern is a network of thin pine needles and coral-like branches, printed in caustic paste and burned so the viscose pile disappears along the lines and the nylon ground stays. Fine linework is unforgiving: the paste has to hold a crisp edge at one or two millimetres, or the branches blur into the ground and the cloth looks merely worn.

Held correctly, the effect is closer to hand embroidery than to print — solid lustrous lines sitting over open mesh, with the sheer areas between them carrying the light. Five ready colourways cover the neutral and jewel-tone ground that most collections build around.

Handfeel, Weight and Drape

At 170–200 GSM this is a light-to-mid velvet: heavy enough to hang in a clean column, light enough that a full-length piece does not fight the wearer. The pile is short and dense rather than plush, so the surface catches light in a narrow sheen instead of a broad bloom, and the burnout openings give the cloth a slight give across the repeat.

Because the motif is line rather than mass, BR-03 drapes more evenly than a large-floral burnout: there is no big panel of solid pile to stiffen a fold. It presses into a clean edge, holds a narrow hem, and works on pieces that need structure — a collared blouse, a straight abaya, a shawl with a bound edge.

Where Designers Use BR-03

Dress and blouse. The fine linework survives small pattern pieces, so sleeves, cuffs and collars stay legible instead of losing the motif. A shirt-dress in a neutral ground is the most commercial cut we see.

Abaya. Used as an overlay or as the sleeve and front panel of a solid abaya, the branch network gives texture without shouting — the understated register most Gulf buyers ask for.

Shawl and scarf. The cloth is light enough for a finished shawl at 170–200 GSM, and the open ground means it folds small. Bind or overlock the edges; a plain seam will grin on the sheer.

Care, Finishing and Colour Fastness

Dry clean is the safest route for a finished garment. If you must wash, cold hand wash with a neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash, no tumble dry — heat collapses the pile, and the sheer areas distort before the pile does. Press on the reverse at low temperature through a cloth, never directly on the pile.

In production the two things to watch are needle marks on the sheer ground (use fine-gauge ballpoint needles) and seam grin at the burnout edge — overlock or bind the open areas rather than leaving a plain seam. Colour fastness to rubbing is grade 4 or better on the dyed grounds; test reports can travel with the swatch card.

Sampling, MOQ and Lead Time

MOQ is 300 metres per colourway. Greige is held in stock, so once a colour is confirmed the lead time is about 15 working days plus shipping. The factory-direct FOB anchor for this range starts around US$3.15/m; exact price depends on quantity and packing, and stock-clearing lots can go keener. Swatch cards go out by courier: send your address and the grounds you want to see and we will quote the freight with the card. Custom colour matching to your Pantone or lab dip is available above the MOQ; custom pattern development (OEM/ODM) is quoted separately, because a burn-out screen has to be built for the new layout.

Recommended End Use

Dress · Abaya · Blouse · Shawl. Fabric can be re-colored to your collection.

Questions Buyers Ask

What is BR-03 Pine & Coral Branch?

BR-03 is an 80% viscose 20% nylon burnout/devore velvet, 170-200 GSM and about 140cm wide. Delicate pine-needle and coral-like branching motif; airy, textured and elegant. Available in: Five ready colorways.

What is the MOQ, lead time and price?

MOQ 300 meters per colorway; greige is stocked so lead time is about 15 working days. The factory-direct FOB anchor starts around US$3.15/m for this range; send quantity for an exact price.

Can I order other colors or a custom pattern?

Yes, this design can be re-colored to your card and we welcome OEM/ODM custom patterns with a separate custom MOQ.

Is burnout velvet the same as devore?

Yes. Burnout, devore and devore are the same process under different trade names - a caustic paste burns away the cellulosic fibre (viscose, cotton) and leaves the synthetic fibre (nylon, polyester) standing. The sheer areas here are open cloth, not a printed illusion.

Will the sheer areas tear or ladder?

The open ground is nylon mesh, so it resists runs far better than a knitted sheer. It still needs a proper finish: fine-gauge ballpoint needles in sewing, and overlocked or bound edges rather than a plain seam.

Can it be washed at home?

Dry clean is safest for a finished garment. If you wash, cold hand wash with neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash and no tumble dry, then dry flat in shade and press on the reverse through a cloth.
