Oversized peony blooms with layered tonal color make BR-02 a statement fabric. The sheer ground between the pile keeps it light despite the bold scale, ideal for gowns, kaftans and occasion pieces that need to fill a room.

How the Peony Is Burned

Oversized blooms with layered tonal colour — the scale is bold, the cloth is not heavy.

BR-02 starts as an 80% viscose / 20% nylon woven cloth. A caustic paste is printed in the peony layout and the cloth is heated: where the paste sits the cellulosic viscose is destroyed and washed out, while the nylon ground resists the alkali and stays. The petals keep solid, lustrous pile; the space between them becomes open mesh. That is why a flower this large still reads light — roughly a third of the surface is air.

The tonal layering is added after the burn-out, by colouring zones of the pile rather than printing a flat image over the whole cloth. The result keeps the depth of velvet in the petals and true transparency in the ground, which a screen print on solid velvet cannot reproduce.

Handfeel, Weight and Drape

At 170–200 GSM this is a light-to-mid velvet: heavy enough to hang in a clean column, light enough that a full-length piece does not fight the wearer. The pile is short and dense rather than plush, so the surface catches light in a narrow sheen instead of a broad bloom, and the burnout openings give the cloth a slight give across the repeat.

Large motifs normally mean a stiff, boardy cloth. Here the open ground does the opposite: the fabric collapses into soft folds and moves with the body, so a floor-length gown in BR-02 weighs and travels like a mid-weight crepe. Interface the sheer areas on fitted bodices; leave them free on sleeves and skirts.

Where Designers Use BR-02

Statement evening gown. The repeat is built so that a single peony can be centred on a bodice or a train. Cut the sheer ground into a yoke or a deep back and the gown keeps its drama without extra weight.

Bridal and second-look. Multi-colour petals over sheer mesh photograph with depth rather than flatness — useful for reception dresses and overskirts where flash is unforgiving.

Kaftan and stage. At stage distance the oversized bloom still reads as a pattern, which is why this design travels well to performance and celebration wear.

Care, Finishing and Colour Fastness

Dry clean is the safest route for a finished garment. If you must wash, cold hand wash with a neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash, no tumble dry — heat collapses the pile, and the sheer areas distort before the pile does. Press on the reverse at low temperature through a cloth, never directly on the pile.

In production the two things to watch are needle marks on the sheer ground (use fine-gauge ballpoint needles) and seam grin at the burnout edge — overlock or bind the open areas rather than leaving a plain seam. Colour fastness to rubbing is grade 4 or better on the dyed grounds; test reports can travel with the swatch card.

Sampling, MOQ and Lead Time

MOQ is 300 metres per colourway. Greige is held in stock, so once a colour is confirmed the lead time is about 15 working days plus shipping. The factory-direct FOB anchor for this range starts around US$3.15/m; exact price depends on quantity and packing, and stock-clearing lots can go keener. Swatch cards go out by courier: send your address and the grounds you want to see and we will quote the freight with the card. Custom colour matching to your Pantone or lab dip is available above the MOQ; custom pattern development (OEM/ODM) is quoted separately, because a burn-out screen has to be built for the new layout.

Recommended End Use

Questions Buyers Ask

What is BR-02 Peony Bloom?

BR-02 is an 80% viscose 20% nylon burnout/devore velvet, 170-200 GSM and about 140cm wide. Bold, large-scale peony blooms in rich multi-color; high-impact statement floral. Available in: Multi-color on sheer ground.

What is the MOQ, lead time and price?

MOQ 300 meters per colorway; greige is stocked so lead time is about 15 working days. The factory-direct FOB anchor starts around US$3.15/m for this range; send quantity for an exact price.

Can I order other colors or a custom pattern?

Yes, this design can be re-colored to your card and we welcome OEM/ODM custom patterns with a separate custom MOQ.

Is burnout velvet the same as devore?

Yes. Burnout, devore and devore are the same process under different trade names - a caustic paste burns away the cellulosic fibre (viscose, cotton) and leaves the synthetic fibre (nylon, polyester) standing. The sheer areas here are open cloth, not a printed illusion.

Will the sheer areas tear or ladder?

The open ground is nylon mesh, so it resists runs far better than a knitted sheer. It still needs a proper finish: fine-gauge ballpoint needles in sewing, and overlocked or bound edges rather than a plain seam.

Can it be washed at home?

Dry clean is safest for a finished garment. If you wash, cold hand wash with neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash and no tumble dry, then dry flat in shade and press on the reverse through a cloth.
