Leopard Burnout (Devore) Velvet
The ever-selling leopard, rendered as true burnout so the spots alternate between dense velvet pile and sheer ground. More elevated than a printed animal fabric, with real depth and handfeel.

How the Leopard Is Burned
The ever-selling leopard, rendered in real burnout — spots alternate between dense pile and open ground.
BR-08 is an 80% viscose / 20% nylon woven velvet. The spot layout is printed in caustic paste and burned: the viscose pile inside each spot is destroyed and washed out, the nylon ground and the ring around each spot stay solid. What you get is a leopard whose spots are transparent rather than printed on — depth and handfeel that a flat print on solid velvet simply cannot hold.
Natural leopard tones. Because the contrast comes from fibre rather than ink, the pattern does not fade or crack with wear the way a printed animal does.
Handfeel, Weight and Drape
At 170–200 GSM this is a light-to-mid velvet: heavy enough to hang in a clean column, light enough that a full-length piece does not fight the wearer. The pile is short and dense rather than plush, so the surface catches light in a narrow sheen instead of a broad bloom, and the burnout openings give the cloth a slight give across the repeat.
An animal layout puts a lot of small open areas across the cloth, which makes BR-08 softer and more supple than its density suggests. It tailors cleanly on the pile and needs interfacing where the spots land on a structured panel — a jacket front, a cuff, a collar stand.
Where Designers Use BR-08
Evening and party. The most direct use: a slip dress or a bias skirt where the animal reads as texture in low light.
Jacket and outerwear. Short jackets, bomber shapes, statement trenches — the cloth has enough body to hold a shoulder and the burnout keeps it from looking upholstered.
Dress and occasion separates. Leopard is a perennial seller, and the burnout version lets a buyer offer the trend at a premium price point instead of competing on a printed fabric.
Care, Finishing and Colour Fastness
Dry clean is the safest route for a finished garment. If you must wash, cold hand wash with a neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash, no tumble dry — heat collapses the pile, and the sheer areas distort before the pile does. Press on the reverse at low temperature through a cloth, never directly on the pile.
In production the two things to watch are needle marks on the sheer ground (use fine-gauge ballpoint needles) and seam grin at the burnout edge — overlock or bind the open areas rather than leaving a plain seam. Colour fastness to rubbing is grade 4 or better on the dyed grounds; test reports can travel with the swatch card.
Sampling, MOQ and Lead Time
MOQ is 300 metres per colourway. Greige is held in stock, so once a colour is confirmed the lead time is about 15 working days plus shipping. The factory-direct FOB anchor for this range starts around US$3.10/m; exact price depends on quantity and packing, and stock-clearing lots can go keener. Swatch cards go out by courier: send your address and the grounds you want to see and we will quote the freight with the card. Custom colour matching to your Pantone or lab dip is available above the MOQ; custom pattern development (OEM/ODM) is quoted separately, because a burn-out screen has to be built for the new layout.
Recommended End Use

Questions Buyers Ask
What is BR-08 Leopard?
BR-08 is an 80% viscose 20% nylon burnout/devore velvet, 170-200 GSM and about 140cm wide. Classic leopard spots burned into pile; fashion-forward with luxury texture. Available in: Natural leopard tones.
What is the MOQ, lead time and price?
MOQ 300 meters per colorway; greige is stocked so lead time is about 15 working days. The factory-direct FOB anchor starts around US$3.10/m for this range; send quantity for an exact price.
Can I order other colors or a custom pattern?
Yes, this design can be re-colored to your card and we welcome OEM/ODM custom patterns with a separate custom MOQ.
Is burnout velvet the same as devore?
Yes. Burnout, devore and devore are the same process under different trade names - a caustic paste burns away the cellulosic fibre (viscose, cotton) and leaves the synthetic fibre (nylon, polyester) standing. The sheer areas here are open cloth, not a printed illusion.
Will the sheer areas tear or ladder?
The open ground is nylon mesh, so it resists runs far better than a knitted sheer. It still needs a proper finish: fine-gauge ballpoint needles in sewing, and overlocked or bound edges rather than a plain seam.
Can it be washed at home?
Dry clean is safest for a finished garment. If you wash, cold hand wash with neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash and no tumble dry, then dry flat in shade and press on the reverse through a cloth.
