How the Gravel Animal Texture Is Burned
An abstracted animal surface in neutral tones — texture rather than a literal print.
BR-09 is an 80% viscose / 20% nylon woven velvet, burned with a caustic paste in a gravel-like abstracted animal layout. The motif is broken into irregular fragments rather than outlined spots, so the cloth reads as a rich surface at a distance and as openwork up close. Neutral multi-tone ground.
This is the quiet option in the animal family: no recognisable motif, no logo, no loud pattern — just depth. Buyers who want trend without committing to leopard or python use it as the premium neutral in a collection.
Handfeel, Weight and Drape
At 170–200 GSM this is a light-to-mid velvet: heavy enough to hang in a clean column, light enough that a full-length piece does not fight the wearer. The pile is short and dense rather than plush, so the surface catches light in a narrow sheen instead of a broad bloom, and the burnout openings give the cloth a slight give across the repeat.
The fragmented layout distributes mesh evenly across the width, which gives BR-09 a very consistent drape — no stiff panel next to a soft one. It cuts well for tailoring because the surface hides seam shift, and it presses flat for a clean lapel or a straight hem.
Where Designers Use BR-09
Dress and suit. A straight dress or a soft suit in a neutral ground is the most commercial cut: the texture does the work, the silhouette stays simple.
Abaya and modest wear. Reads as a plain dark cloth at a distance and as texture close up — useful where a buyer wants something quieter than a floral.
Layering. Sheer enough to sit over a solid base as an overshirt, a sleeveless layer or a panel.
Care, Finishing and Colour Fastness
Dry clean is the safest route for a finished garment. If you must wash, cold hand wash with a neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash, no tumble dry — heat collapses the pile, and the sheer areas distort before the pile does. Press on the reverse at low temperature through a cloth, never directly on the pile.
In production the two things to watch are needle marks on the sheer ground (use fine-gauge ballpoint needles) and seam grin at the burnout edge — overlock or bind the open areas rather than leaving a plain seam. Colour fastness to rubbing is grade 4 or better on the dyed grounds; test reports can travel with the swatch card.
Sampling, MOQ and Lead Time
MOQ is 300 metres per colourway. Greige is held in stock, so once a colour is confirmed the lead time is about 15 working days plus shipping. The factory-direct FOB anchor for this range starts around US$3.10/m; exact price depends on quantity and packing, and stock-clearing lots can go keener. Swatch cards go out by courier: send your address and the grounds you want to see and we will quote the freight with the card. Custom colour matching to your Pantone or lab dip is available above the MOQ; custom pattern development (OEM/ODM) is quoted separately, because a burn-out screen has to be built for the new layout.

Questions Buyers Ask
What is BR-09 Gravel Animal?
BR-09 is an 80% viscose 20% nylon burnout/devore velvet, 170-200 GSM and about 140cm wide. Abstracted animal/gravel texture; an on-trend subtle alternative to literal prints. Available in: Neutral multi-tone.
What is the MOQ, lead time and price?
MOQ 300 meters per colorway; greige is stocked so lead time is about 15 working days. The factory-direct FOB anchor starts around US$3.10/m for this range; send quantity for an exact price.
Can I order other colors or a custom pattern?
Yes, this design can be re-colored to your card and we welcome OEM/ODM custom patterns with a separate custom MOQ.
Is burnout velvet the same as devore?
Yes. Burnout, devore and devore are the same process under different trade names - a caustic paste burns away the cellulosic fibre (viscose, cotton) and leaves the synthetic fibre (nylon, polyester) standing. The sheer areas here are open cloth, not a printed illusion.
Will the sheer areas tear or ladder?
The open ground is nylon mesh, so it resists runs far better than a knitted sheer. It still needs a proper finish: fine-gauge ballpoint needles in sewing, and overlocked or bound edges rather than a plain seam.
Can it be washed at home?
Dry clean is safest for a finished garment. If you wash, cold hand wash with neutral detergent, no bleach, no enzyme wash and no tumble dry, then dry flat in shade and press on the reverse through a cloth.
